Mantis
Mantis Bug Tracker is a free and open source, web-based bug tracking system released under the terms of the GNU General Public License version 2. The most common use of MantisBT is to track software defects. However, MantisBT is often configured by users to serve as a more generic issue tracking system and project management tool.Some salient features of Mantis are:
- Email notifications: It sends out emails of updates, comments, resolutions to the concerned stake holders.
- Access Control: You can control user access at project level
- Customize: You can easily customize Mantis as per your requirements.
- Mobile Support: Mantis supports iPhone, Android and Windows Phone Platforms.

How to Add a Project
- Login using "Administrator" as user name and "root" as password.
- Under Manage Tab, go to Manage Projects and click "Create New Project"
- Fill all fields in "Add Project" and Click Add Project
- Now lets define define the categories in our project,in Global Categories enter the category name, in our scenario we will name it "Billing" and click "Add and Edit Category" if you want to assign this category to user or click "Add Category" to create a category without assign it to anyone.In our scenario we will click "Add Category".
- Congratulation you just create your first project
How to Create User
- Login using "Administrator" as user name and "root" as password.
- Under Manage Tab, go to Manage Users and click "Create New Account"
- Fill all fields in " Create New Account" and Click Create User
- From "Manage Accounts" click on the user you just created to assign user to the desired project,from "Add user to project" select the project you want to assign the user to it ,in our scenario we will choose "Test Project" and from "Access Level" choose the level this user should access the project, i.e. this user could be a manger but I want him to access this project as a reporter and in another project he could be a developer.Click Add User.
- You could update Email and other Account Preferences as desired form "Account Preferences",in our scenario we will leave it as it is.
- Login credentials are sent to the user on him email.
How to Create Custom Field
- Login using "Administrator" as user name and "root" as password.
- Under Manage Tab, go to Manage Users and click "Manage Custom Fields".
- Enter Field Name in "Custom Fields"and Click Button "New Custom Field",in our scenario we will name it "Test Field 1".
- Once the file is crated "Edit custom field" will open ,Fill the fields in " Edit custom field" as you like or as in the picture and Update Custom Field.
- Custom Field is created,Click the Custom Field Again and Link Custom Field to your Project by selecting the project you want to assign the field to it and click Link Custom Field.
- Do you want to the the Custom Field you just created ?? You need to Report an Issue.
How to Report an Issue
- Login using your user-name will be displayed on the top of the Mantis main screen and now you can report your issue into the Mantis by clicking on the option "Report Issue" as shown below.
- If there is more than one project on MantisBT "Choose Project" page will be your first page to choose which project you want to report an issue on it.In our scenario we will choose "Test Project".
- Enter Issue Details, you could Upload Files or print screen or what ever you want, then click Submit Issue.
- What about our Custom filed we have created in the previous step,if you scroll down to the bottom of the Enter Issue Details page you would be able to see it.
- Once you click Submit Issue the issue will be submitted directly to the user you have selected with all its details.You could see all your issues from "View Issues".
